In helicopter MRO market light and medium-weight helicopters are mainly categorized on the basis of their take-off weight capacity. Lightweight helicopters have a take-off capacity of up to 3,500 kg, whereas medium-weight helicopters have a take-off capacity between 3,500kg and 8,000kg. Increasing tourism expenditure and rising helicopter tour popularity directly affect the helicopter tourism industry positively. As per the data released by Alaska Helicopter Tours in 2021, the company reported a 250% growth in helicopter tour sales compared to 2019. This shows an increased preference for helicopter tourism. Therefore, many helicopter tour companies expanded their fleet size to cater to growing demand for helicopter tourism. In December 2022, Falcon Aviation Services signed a deal to procure five new lightweight Airbus H130 helicopters. In September 2022, The Hoffmann Family of Companies announced its plans to start a helicopter tour company. Thus, with rising helicopter tour services and emergency medical services, the demand for light and medium-weight helicopters has increased in the past few years, ultimately propelling the global helicopter MRO market growth.

The Asia Pacific helicopter MRO market share is expected to register the highest CAGR during the forecast period owing to the rising demand for civil and military helicopters. In Asia Pacific, more than 61% of the helicopters are owned and operated by four countries—China, Australia, Japan, and New Zealand. Overall, Australia has the largest market for helicopters, followed by Japan, with most helicopters from Airbus and Leonardo.

China represents the largest number of helicopters, reaching 913 in 2023, according to the Insight Partners Analysis. The growing number of contracts for the adoption of new helicopters in Asia Pacific has created a massive growth for helicopter MRO market across China and India. In April 2023, Airbus Helicopters signed a contract with GDAT, China's helicopter operators, for the adoption of the 50 H160 helicopters. This contract was made to order H160 on the civil helicopter. The companies also signed a strategic partnership to procure the helicopter H160 in China.

Based on type, the global helicopter MRO market is segmented into airframe maintenance, engine maintenance, component maintenance, and line maintenance. Increasing commercial applications of helicopters and helicopter fleet expansion strategy in the defense sector are driving the demand for airframe maintenance, engine maintenance, component maintenance, and line maintenance. In July 2023, the Indian army issued a tender to replace its Cheetah and Chetak helicopters with 20 modern light helicopters. In 2022, AdventHealth expanded its helicopter fleet in its ambulance fleet to cater to increasing demand from the growing population. Moreover, as per the data published by the General Aviation Manufacturers Association in 2022, the demand for commercial helicopters increased by ~7.4% from 2021, which totaled 876 deliveries in 2022. Thus, owing to the growing demand for helicopters in the commercial and defense sectors, the demand for helicopter MRO is projected to increase during the forecast period.

AAL Group Ltd., Abu Dhabi Aviation, Airbus, Elbit Systems Ltd., GAL (EDGE Group PJSC), Gulf Helicopters, HELICONIA, Israel Aerospace Industries, Leonardo SpA, and Saudi Rotorcraft Support Company Ltd. are among the key helicopter MRO market players profiled during this market study. In addition to these players, several other essential market players have been studied and analyzed to get a holistic view of the global helicopter MRO market and its ecosystem.
