According to the American Academy of Sleep Medicine report, a study conducted and reviewed by the Minnesota Regional Sleep Disorders Center showed a high rate of depression among people suffering from obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) in both community and clinical settings. Fatigue and drowsiness are the two main OSA symptoms associated with mental health conditions. Additionally, data published in the American Journal of Epidemiology reveals that the estimated prevalence rates of OSA have substantially increased over the last two decades, majorly due to epidemic obesity. It is further estimated that 26% of adults in the US aged between 30 and 70 years suffer from sleep apnea. According to a neuroimaging study published in the Journal Sleep article, the participants suffering from severe, untreated sleep apnea had a significant reduction in white matter fiber integrity in multiple brain areas, accompanied by the impairment of cognition, mood, and daytime alertness. However, following one year of continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) therapy, patients have witnessed recovery from brain damage. Thus, the growing demand for sleep apnea diagnostic devices and therapeutic solutions is driving the sleep apnea market growth.
