The new partnership focuses on solutions in urbanizing cities in Asia
The Alliance to End Plastic Waste ("Alliance") today announced a new partnership with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to address the worldwide pollution of the oceans from plastic waste - By implementing local solutions in rapidly urbanizing cities in Asia, the agreement will bring together the over 40 leading global member companies of the Alliance and the strengths of USAID's new flagship program "Clean Cities, Blue Ocean" against plastic pollution of the oceans.
"The work we will do with USAID reaffirms the Alliance's commitment to partnering to develop, incubate and deploy projects in local cities and communities that support the goal of preventing plastic waste in the environment," said Jacob Duer , President and CEO of the Alliance to End Plastic Waste, "Partnerships like this enable us to demonstrate and accelerate the implementation of solutions that then drive capital investments - which are necessary to address the problem of plastic waste."
Local solutions are imperative to contain the flood of more than eight million tons of plastic that enter the sea every year. Through the USAID program "Clean Cities, Blue Ocean", the Alliance will work to find and implement local solutions to reduce and prevent the penetration of plastic waste from land into the waterways and the sea - with a focus on urbanization Cities in Asia.
