The new supply of Electric Vehicles may perhaps cater to the speedily growing market since demand for petrol vehicles slowly recedes

Europe’s automakers are gearing up towards making 2020 the year of electric vehicles, as per the automotive experts, with a drive of inventive models as the leading manufacturers across the globe scramble for lowering carbon dioxide emissions of their produces.

Earlier models of electric vehicles were generally made targeting niche markets. However, 2020 is expected to exhibit the launch of flagship electric vehicle models with some known labels, for instance the Vauxhall Corsa, the Mini as well as the Fiat 500.

The number of electric vehicle (EV) models available, for especially European buyers, is foreseen to jump from less than 100 to almost 175 by the end of 2020, as per recent research reports. Moreover, there are chances that by the end of 2025 there will be over 330 electric vehicle models.

The new supply may perhaps cater to the speedily growing market, as the demand for petrol vehicles slowly recedes. The EV sales of the United Kingdom only is expected to rise from 3.4% (80,000), of overall vehicles sold in 2019, to approximately 5.5% (approx. 131,000). Also, by the end of 2026 EV sales will account for one-fifth of entire automotive sales in the UK, as per the forecasts.

The new rules of European Union (EU) that will be applicable from 1st January, state that carmakers will have to pay huge penalty if the car sold by them exceeds the average carbon dioxide emissions, 95g per kilometer. In addition, in case any carmaker’s  vehicles is exceeding the pre-defined limit of CO2 emissions by EU, they will have to pay a penalty of almost €95 (£79) for each gram over the mark, multiplied by the total number of cars sold by them.

A number of new electric models of cars will soon be on sale, high time in order to meet the requirements for EU regulations. For instance, in November the first of the Volkswagen’s ID.3 cars rolled off a fresh electric manufacture line in Zwickau, eastern Germany that will produce around 330,000 vehicles/ year by the end of 2021. Also, the Mini Electric models of BMW, initially made in Oxford, are expected to arrive in showrooms by March 2020. Vauxhall, a PSA Group company, will soon be starting production of its Corsa-e that is expected to go on roads by March.

Sales of pure EV will still be dominated by the cars with the conventional fossil-fuel engines and hybrid engines that make use of both battery as well as internal combustion power. Nevertheless, the surge in electric vehicle is likely to contribute towards significant reduction of prices, as the carmakers will have to compete for the buyers, who are far off from being the early adopters and willing to pay for a premium vehicle.
